Statewide Legal Services

Statewide Legal Services operates a general legal hotline that provides free legal advice on a variety of civil law issues such as housing, including landlord-tenant and foreclosure matters; family problems; consumer issues, including bankruptcy and matters related to public benefits such as, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), energy assistance, State Supplement and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Persons needing legal representation are referred to the appropriate Legal Services office.

Statewide Legal Services also provides a wide variety of educational pamphlets on common legal problems relating to housing, family matters, public benefits and consumer issues.

Disability Rights Connecticut, Inc.

DCRT is a new independent, nonprofit organization established to be the successor entity to Connecticut's Office of Protection and Advocacy for Persons with Disabilities which was abolished by Connecticut law as of June 30, 2017. DCRT is an advocacy organization dedicated to identifying and eliminating the barriers that people with disabilities face in exercising their civil, legal and human rights. As Connecticut's protection and advocacy system (P&A), DRCT works to improve the quality of life for individuals with disabilities, their families and our community.

DRCT's mission is to advocate, educate, investigate and pursue legal, administrative, and other appropriate remedies to advance and protect the civil rights of individuals with disabilities to participate equally and fully in all facets of community life in Connecticut.

Connecticut Bar Association Referral Service

This service is designed to assist people who have legal needs and wish to consult with a private attorney but do not know who to call. Lawyer Referral Service will refer the individual to an attorney who is a member in good standing of the Connecticut bar. You will be asked a few questions in order to determine the nature of your legal needs. All information you tell the Lawyer Referral Service staff is strictly confidential. A moderate fee of $35 will be charged to you for the referral which entitles you to a ½ hour consultation with an attorney. The $35 fee will be waived for Personal Injury, Worker's Compensation and Social Security Disability matters.

If it is determined by the lawyer that further legal service is required, all additional fees will be discussed with the lawyer.

CT Fair Housing Center provides free investigative and legal services to residents who believe they have been the victims of housing discrimination. The Statewide Grievance Committee is a committee of 21 individuals, 14 of whom are attorneys and 7 of whom are not attorneys, appointed by the Judges of the Superior Court to review, investigate and adjudicate attorney ethics complaints.
